My name is Linda Franklin. I will be 59 in July and was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 26. The first few years I had to urinate on a stick to tell if my sugar was high or not; Glucose meters were not widely available. Twelve years ago, I switched from multiple daily injections to a pump so I could have more freedom with my daily activities.
I have been active all of my life, bodybuilding in my 20's combined with backpacking and running. In my 40's, soccer became a huge part of my life. When I turned 50, my women's team won the Gold Medal in the National Senior Olympics and 2 Gold Medals in the state championships.
Just a little over 2 years ago, I found Crossfit. I placed 40th worldwide (Masters Women 55-59) in the 2014 Crossfit Open. With all of this, I have had my ups and downs with diabetes. Fortunately, I have no complications . I have been through 2 pregnancies with T1 and have two beautiful daughters. None of this has been easy, but I believe that diabetes can make you a warrior...strong, committed and compassionate!
